Maeran

Canzoni contro la guerra di Maeran

Maeran are Dominic Ward and Steve Wilson. They met at Liverpool University and have been writing, recording and performing ever since. They originally performed covers of Simon-Garfunkel songs, but soon began producing their own original blend of folk/folk rock music combining unique melodies, captivating vocal and instrumental arrangements and powerful poignant lyrics that challenge people to listen to what they have to say.

Dom and Steve spent most of their early career performing and produced two albums of songs , 'Favourite Person, Favourite Place' and 'Ten Comma Waltz' both of which have excellent original works on. Since 2000 however, they have spent most of their time in the studio writing and recording and in 2001 founded their own recording company, Homeward88 Records . The first public release under this label was in 2005, with their CD, 'A Leaf Stains the Wind', which originally went on sale on at efolk music. It is the culmination of several years of hard work and includes some excellent original works, most notably their anthem, 'Fight No More', which was number 1 in the mp3.com folk charts and at other mp3 sites in no less than 6 countries. This was followed in 2006 by, 'Hollyhocks and Hedgerows', which they believe is like nothing else out there - twelve totally unique compositions that tell the story of childhood to adulthood in Maeran's own inimitable way. Both are now available free at http://www.last.fm/music/Maeran.

Maeran's music is characterised by the subtle and intricate arrangements of Dominic and the powerful and picturesque lyrics and melodies of both Dominic and Stephen. Their music has a distinctive sound which is attributed to the significant lack of influences, meaning that their songs and melodies do not fall into obvious and predictable categories. The result is highly original and very listenable songs and instrumentals that often go off at different tangents and provide a surprising and rewarding experience.

This unique British folk duo produces gentle, thoughtful songs with rich arrangements of stringed and other instruments, which surprise and delight with musical twists and turns. Their albums are distributed on a "pass it on" basis, with a request for a donation to the charity of the recipient's choice each time it changes hands. Their music explores a variety of moods and themes. Their music is accessible on a variety of sites and turns up on radio stations in the USA, Holland, Finland and the U.K.

Their music is offered or free and all CD's on this page can be downloaded free of charge as part of their 'Pass It On Music' charity initiative. There is more about this at their official site http://www.maeranfolk.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk

In a recent development the management of Maeran and their label Homeward88 has been taken over solely by Dominic Ward, member of Maeran and producer of their music. This is a result of abuse of their work and the label by the previous management team who have now been removed. This will lead to better management and production of Maeran's music.

Dominic Ward is currently a teacher at St Dominic's School Brewood, where he runs a song writing club for the students and is involved in composition of new music for the benefit of the school. He continues to write with musical confederate Steve. They are currently working on a new CD entitled 'Simon in the Wliderness'.

Stephen Wilson is currently on a sabbatical, taking time out to consider his future direction having left full-time teaching. He continues to write and is using this time to work on more lyrics as well as pursuing his own career as an author.
