Vanessa Redgrave

Vanessa Redgrave (Londra, 30 gennaio 1937) è un'attrice britannica.

Annoverata tra le migliori attrici cinematografiche, durante la sua lunga e variegata carriera ha ottenuto il plauso della critica e numerosi riconoscimenti tra cui un Premio Oscar, due Golden Globe, un BAFTA (alla carriera), uno Screen Actors Guild Award, due Emmy, due Prix a Cannes e una Coppa Volpi a Venezia. Attiva anche in campo teatrale, ha vinto inoltre un Tony Award e un Olivier Award per la migliore attrice.

Ha vinto l'Oscar alla miglior attrice non protagonista (a fronte di sei candidature) nel 1978 per la sua interpretazione nel film Giulia. Ha ricevuto altre cinque candidature agli Oscar rispettivamente per Morgan matto da legare (1966), Isadora (1968), Maria Stuarda, regina di Scozia (1971), I bostoniani (1984) e Casa Howard (1992).

Redgrave is famous both as a cultural personality and actor, as well as, political activist. She was born in
Blackheath, London in 1937. During the 1960s, Redgrave became a political activist. She joined the Campaign for
Nuclear Disarmament, Bertrand Russells‟s Committee of 100 and actively supported the independence of Vietnam,
the rights of Palestinians, Nelson Mandela and the ANC, the Irish liberation struggle and has worked as UNICEF‟s
Special Representative for the Performing Arts in what was formerly Yugoslavia and within Sarajevo. Today, at age
71, she remains active both in theatre and cinema, as well as, politics
