Pawn

Canzoni contro la guerra di Pawn

Trascript from an Interview with Pawn.

Pawn is a 3 member metal band hailing from Islamabad. The first and only album, Sanity in Sedation was recorded on an absolute zero-budget in a bedroom somewhere in Islamabad. The band members are currently separated by every possible ocean on the planet, but hope to return to Isloo one day and set the place on fire.
Pawn's drummer was forced, due to financial constraints, to sell his drumkit. In order to overcome this, Pawn's bassist and guitarist took to the computer to try and work in some material without a live drummer, and ended up expanding beyond what was initially expected. The Hollow Human project was written, recorded, engineered and burnt over a 3 week period

Why this name?

A driving undercurrent in the band's vision of the world is the divide between the have and have-nots of privelige and power. The band name is an ode to the unavoidable underdog, the inevitable downtrodden, the faceless commoner.

Do you play live?

Recently, the bassist and drummer performed live at Civil Junction with their latest project, Bachay Do Hi Achay. The studio versions of this project's work will be online soon here at Soundclick.

How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?

The internet is the beginning of a new era in global representation. Hidden behind IP addresses and screen-names, each member of the online community is equal. Someday, if this giant network is not hijacked by the current powerstructures, the internet will allow us to come closer to a truly globalized, unified and egalitarian society. And on a side note, if you have any friends in the RIAA, or just meet a random stranger affiliated with them: Destroy them. Art was always meant to be free, just because society has failed doesnt mean we still can't dream and aim for something better.

Would you sign a record contract with a major label?

Sure, if they would pay to get us back together and hook us up with some equipment.

Your influences?

TooL. Kyuss. Soundgarden. Sepultura. Slayer. Others.

Favorite spot?

Haleem Ghar.

Equipment used: JB Player Sledgehammmer bass. Washburn BT 52 guitar. Kalifornia drumkit. PC for recording and final effexualization.

Anything else...?

Check out Hollow Human, the side project of the Guitarist and Bassist. And Bachay Do Hee Achay, the side project of the Drummer and the Bassist, online soon.
